Plus-Products as Part of Tomorrow’s Solutions

Norilia’s plus-products and ingredients can help address some of the world’s health and environmental challenges. We are constantly seeking new ways to refine animal co-streams—creating value for farmers, consumers, and society. This is the driving force behind our research and innovation activities.

We believe our plus-products can help solve societal challenges

Our goal is to promote sustainable value creation as a responsible supplier of safe, sustainable quality products—produced with care for both people and animals.

Innovations that help address health challenges

Many animal-derived raw materials can be used in ingredients and products that contribute to solving health issues in society. Here are a few examples:

  • Mucosa is extracted from pig intestines and used in the production of heparin, a vital anticoagulant medication.
  • Eggshells and eggshell membranes are used in dietary supplements targeting joint and bone health. Studies have also shown that eggshell membrane has bioactive properties relevant to wound care.
  • Through the bioprocess of enzymatic hydrolysis, raw materials from meaty chicken and turkey bones are converted into easily absorbable protein ingredients—known as protein hydrolysates. These hydrolysates are highly digestible and may support muscle maintenance, recovery, and digestive function. They also contain collagen, a sought-after component in products aimed at supporting skin, joint, and bone health.

Sustainability in Practice

In several of our research and innovation projects, we focus on documenting the properties and effects of our ingredients. One of the goals of our R&D projects is to build a solid knowledge base that can support our partners in developing the health and nutrition products of the future.

Through R&D initiatives, we explore new bioprocesses to refine co-streams into innovative new ingredients. This enables us to expand the use cases and reach new markets. Many of our ingredients are relevant for products aimed at active lifestyles and healthy aging.

Unlocking the Potential of Our Raw Materials

Norilia’s Business Development Department is responsible for building, managing, and financing the company’s R&D portfolio. We ensure that the projects support Norilia’s strategic and research needs—both short- and long-term.

The knowledge and results from these projects are used to realize the full potential of animal co-streams, laying the foundation for innovation and product development. A deep understanding of customer needs and market trends is essential for success. That’s why we work closely with our sales and production departments to find the best solutions.

We are always looking for new opportunities and smarter ways to utilize our raw materials—not only to remain competitive but also to contribute to greater sustainability.

We collaborate with research institutions, customers, and other industry players. Please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Norilia’s business model is built on maximizing resource utilization and ensuring that every part of the animal is used in new value chains. In doing so, we contribute to increased sustainability and value creation.
