In June 2025, Nortura published its Sustainability Report for 2024. The report highlights how the company and its subsidiaries are working toward more responsible food production.
Sustainability Report 2024

The report clearly emphasizes that sustainability is not only a responsibility, but also a prerequisite for value creation and future competitiveness.
The reported results cover the fiscal year from January 1 to December 31, 2024, and relate to the objectives in Nortura’s sustainability strategy.
“Norilia’s business model is about utilizing every part of the animal and enhancing the value of these resources. That’s sustainability in practice,” says Roar Furuhaug, CEO of Norilia.
Norilia: Maximizing Every Resource
Norilia plays a central role in sustainability efforts by refining co-streams from meat and egg production into plus-products. Eggshells are processed into calcium for feed, fertilizer, and dietary supplements, while the membrane from eggshells is used in medical applications. Offal and hides from cattle are turned into pet food and luxury leather, and bones are used for broth production. Wool continues to gain new applications, including pellets, insulation, and acoustic panels. For poultry, large volumes of bones, feathers, blood, and offal are processed into protein and fat for use in fish feed and pet food.
Concrete Sustainability Actions
Beyond product development, Norilia has implemented several measures to reduce its climate and environmental impact. The company is progressing toward ISO 14001 certification, its wool is re-certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, and energy use at the Skjeberg facility has been reduced by 23 percent since 2021. In pet food production, the need for freezing raw materials has been cut by an impressive 90 percent, leading to significantly lower emissions and energy consumption.
Looking Ahead
The report shows that Norilia is committed to continuing the development of solutions that create value from all resources within Nortura’s value chain. By offering circular and safe ingredients, the company contributes to reducing the environmental footprint both in its own operations and for customers around the world.
